2:20pm is when the meeting started. Our outline was
-Welcome
- Invited people to sign up for open offices: publicist, journalist, secretary, special events coordinator.
-The meeting times were discussed. We said we will meet twice a month, 2nd Tuesday at 2pm, 4th Thursday at 12:30.
- Everyone introduced themselves.
We also talked about Bamboch T.V. We are basically awaiting confirmation. If we are to do this event, Professionalism and substance/content is to be a key factor. The Website is www.bambochtv.com.
We talked about the shirts that were going to be available through Jean. The shirt will have our emblem on the front with the words “Still Making History” on the back. The phrase is on the back because we are the first official student run organization in a College in
Georgia.
We are thinking about working with the Caribbean club to help with
Caribbean Week/ and/or the Flag party. We need someone to speak with the president of the Caribbean Association.
We are trying to have our first major “thing” happen. Whether it is 1 “Party” or having a bunch of little events leading up to a “Party”, we wanted to have the people of KSU know that we are here. The idea was to have it happen towards the end of February, basically before Spring Break. We voted to have the one major event first. It was said that this event will happen February 22nd from 9:00PM – 2:00AM. General door admission should be $2 – $3 dollars. Bobby’s contact or Sean’s contact could DJ this event.
Community Service is not required for an organization on campus to function, but it is necessary for us Haitians to show KSU and everybody else that we can work together and help out in the community, Haitian or not.
We talked about this Haitian restaurant on
Cobb Parkway
(Old 41) that opened up. We want to see if they are willing to cater for our events and Jesika said that she would check out the place for us.
There is a Community Speaker/Professor. Bobby said that he would contact the Prof. to see if he can come and speak in one of our meetings.
Told everyone about Miss KSU and if anyone was willing to sign up.

The International Student Alliance (ISA) is hosting their Annual Miss KSU Universe. They have people represent from many countries so there should be no reason why Haiti can’t represent!
The winner of the Contest will win $500 so make sure you try out.
The Date for the contest is March 31st, but the last day to enroll is February 15th. If you want to try out, make sure you email hnechama@msn.com with the following information
- Name, contact number(s), email.
There is someone already trying out, but don’t be discouraged. Be ready to be asked a few questions so ISA can choose the best person to represent Haiti.
The dress is native haitian Attire and make sure you can present a skill or talent in front of the judges.

The meeting was called to order at approximately 12:45 by President, Jenna Laverdure. She welcomed everyone and thanked all for coming. The first order of business was appointing a designated day and time for the group to meet and how many times a month it was necessary to meet. It was concluded that we would have official group meetings twice a month but this wouldn’t include other days set apart to meet for events and activities. It was suggested by the Vice President, Jean St. Val that it would be a convenient idea to have alternating meeting days, meeting once a month on a Tuesday at 12:30 and holding the second meeting of the month on Thursday at 2:00pm. This idea was to help more people be able to participate in the meetings or if they meet one meeting, it’s possible they can make the other meeting, indicating that’s a better time for them. This in turn would help us find the best day and time to hold meetings so we would have more members present.
Our current plans were discussed in the meeting. One point that was unanimously agreed upon was for the Haitian Student Alliance to meet with other groups and be able to work alongside them and congregate on one activity.
Ideas that were brainstormed but was decided would still need more focused discussion were: -Making sure the banners and flyers were prepared
-One of our group members (bobby?) meet with Mahal who is working on a Caribbean Week and Flag Party. We would want to get involved in that and get our flag and information represented throughout that week.
-Find out the schedules of other organizations (Caribbean Club, ASA??) and coordinate with them (Moy???)
-Have a successful videotape of our group having a debate of sort about our ideas on being Haitian, Haitian-American and the stereotypes we face and also how we want to erase all stereotypes and teach about the true beauty of a hidden culture.—Bomboche T.V. (more information will be given on next meeting as per Jean St. Val)
-Coming out Party
-Possibility of being part or being represented in the January 23rd MLK celebration.
For the next meeting it was concluded that we would all bring $2 in order to pay for the beautiful art work done by our friend Steven S. And more details are being awaited to Bomboche T.V.
The meeting was adjourned approximately 1:30?
Nechama Hilaire,
Secretary

First posted by Nechama Hilaire. I am just reposting it
To Haiti,
My native home whispers my name.
When I was young I would disclaim.
Now pride overwhelms this undiscoverd fame.
Long ago I was ridiculed, ostracized and forced to shame.
Now I realize hypocrites will deride during your tribulation, but praise you
when your victory reigns.
But now I stand in vain,
remembering the dim regions whence my mothers came.
Do I still hear the ecstatic laughter of the dark children’s games?
Can I still feel the burning pride of Haitian culture
arising Africa’s flames?
It dwells within me still; this ruthless memory that can’t be tamed.
I still have hope for this island of pandemonium and destitution which was tragically framed.
When America’s cupidity, and unfair immigration systems forget you;
I stand fateful just the same.
When the world’s misconception of your “uncivilized” values morally deprives you;
standing tall I will remain.
For when the struggle of Haiti is unbearable to overcome,
endurance is gained.
When the gods of Guinea have turned their ears from your creole cries of hoplessness,
with faith the Lord will ease your pain.
Even when the entire world has seemed to forget you,
Haiti, I still will
Proclaim!
Still Standing,
Keda Jeantine’
